Statement Of Faith

New Covenant Christian Church has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only to their over-emphasis of the doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the Body of Christ.

We believe the only true basis of Christian fellowship is Christ’s Agape love, which is greater than any differences we possess and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians.

We believe worship of God should be inspirational. Therefore, we give great place to music in our worship.

We believe worship of God should be intelligent. Therefore, our services are designed with great emphasis upon the teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshipped.

We believe worship of God should be fruitful. Therefore, we look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have truly been worshipping Him.

We believe in all the basic doctrines of historic Christianity.

We believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, that the Bible, Old and New Testaments are the inspired, infallible Word of God.

We believe that God is eternally existent in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe that God is the personal, transcendent, and sovereign Creator of all things.

We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human, that He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, provided for the atonement of our sins by His substitutionary death on the cross, was bodily raised from the dead, ascended back to the right hand of the Father, and ever lives to make intercession for us.

We believe in the personal, visible, and pre-millennial second coming of Jesus Christ to the earth. He will return with His saints and set up a kingdom of which there will be no end. After Jesus ascended to Heaven, He poured out of His Holy Spirit on the believers in Jerusalem, enabling them to fulfill His command to preach the Gospel to the entire world, an obligation shared by all believers today.

We believe that all people are, by nature, separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When a person repents of sin and accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, trusting Him to save, that person is immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, all his/her sins are forgiven, and that person becomes a child of God, destined to spend eternity with the Lord.

We believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in the Scriptures, and that they are valid for today if they are exercised within the scriptural guidelines.

We as believers are to covet the best gifts, seeking to exercise them in love that the whole Body of Christ might be edified. We believe that love is more important than the most spectacular gifts, and without this love all exercise of spiritual gifts is worthless.

If God has touched your heart to sow in this ministry, we welcome you to good ground!

Purpose Statement

To bring people to Jesus and membership in his family, develop them to Christlike maturity, and equip them for their ministry, in the church and life mission in the world, in order to magnify God’s name.

At New Covenant Christian Church we use five key words to summarize Christ’s five purposes for His church.

Magnify: We celebrate God’s presence in worship

Mission: We communicate God’s Word through evangelism

Membership: We incorporate God’s family into our fellowship

Maturity: We educate God’s people through discipleship

Ministry: We demonstrate God’s love through service

These key words, representing our five purposes, have been incorporated into our mission statement.

I am a native of Garrison, West Virginia and have a family heritage that is rich in church work.  My work began as a young lad ringing the church bell, summoning the community to Sunday School, and later in my early teen years being appointed as church janitor. My great-grandfather was the founder of this small church in West Virginia and my uncle was the pastor.

St John Baptist Church

I received my Bachelor of Arts from West Virginia State University in 1964; License Social Worker (Ohio); member Omega Psi Phi Fraternity (Basileus); graduate of the Urban Ministries Training and Development Center at Cleveland State University in 1991;  graduate study in 1974 at Kent State University toward a Masters in Public Administration; received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity in 2005 from the Light of the World Bible College, Pittsburgh, PA; member Who's Who among Executives and Professionals in America 2006; retired from corporate America in 2004 after employment in sales with IBM (New York); sales manager with Control Data (Chicago); State Director of United Negro College Fund (Indiana); training consultant (Cleveland, OH).

I am married and the father of four and the  grandfather of five.

I was called to the ministry on December 25, 1990, while reading the 23rd Psalms, and was licensed as a minister in 1992. In 1997 I was ordained an elder and  was consecrated Bishop in 2004. In 1999, after much prayer and counsel, I became founding pastor of  New Covenant Christian Church. I am a Bishop in the Christ-Centered Fellowship of Churches headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio and a member of the Joint College of African-American Pentecostal Bishops.

I have been in ministry for 18 years and I can summarize my purpose for answering “the call” to become a pastor with these five statements: To celebrate God’s presence in worship, to communicate God’s Word through evangelism, to incorporate God’s family into fellowship, to educate God’s people through discipleship and to demonstrate God’s love through service to His people.
